So I stared down turbid waters
And saw a young man staring at me
I reached out and
He pulled me out to safety
Grateful I was, for he was thoughtful
Away he went, till we meet again
And then I stared at the mirror
Peered at it with concentration
And then I recognized the young man
Many were the questions I had for him
But non were of intrigue as this:
Why pull me out to safety?
Sometimes, he said, it’s only what’s inside
That can save what’s outside
And only by peering at his reflection
Can a man gain sight
