Gambia coach Tom Saintfiet hailed his players after their 1-0 win over Congo Brazzaville in a friendly game played on Friday at the Estadio De Bela Vista, Portugal.
Striker Assan Ceesay wasn’t a touch short of his ruthless best leading the Scorpions’ attack. He notched the only goal of the game in the second half.
The Scorpions passed with flying colors, however, playing some sublime football on their way to a second tough opponent, Guinea on Tuesday.
Tom’s charges are on a training camp in Portugal, intensifying preparations for their group D qualifier against Gabon in November.

“I am very proud of the team, Tom tells Journalist Musa Sise in Portugal. “We were in control of the entire game and we deserve this victory, “he said. “We are a strong team, we are number one in the qualification and that’s the reason for our great performance tonight.”
The Belgian tactician has refreshed his squad with some new faces- Musa Juwara, Sainey Njie, Abdoulie Sanyang, Baboucarr Gaye and Noah Sonko all winning their first senior call-ups. However, Tom, spoke glowingly of the impact the new inclusions had on Friday’s win. “Of recent we have developed so many young talents, “he said. “All these players did well today. Every coach wants to have so many good players to make choices. We know in qualifications some players will be absent due to injury, so it is always better to have so many good players than too little good players.”

The Gambia currently lead their qualifying group for the Afcon finals in January 2022 having garnered four points after two matches.
