Omar Gaye is the new Director-General of GAMWORKS, effective 1st May 2021. He takes over from Mr. Ebrima Cham, who leaves his position after reaching the statutory retirement age. Mr. Omar Gaye was the Technical Director of GAMWORKS from February 2004 up to the time of his elevation to the rank of Director-General.
Outgoing Director, Ebrima Cham, led GAMWORKS for 17 years. GAMWORKS was incorporated as Company Limited by Guarantee in 1993, as an autonomous and not-for-profit Agency to manage public works by the Government of The Gambia with the World Bank’s assistance.
The Subscribers and Board of Directors of GAMWORKS are drawn from five associations, namely: the Gambia Bar Association (GBA), the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), The Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (TANGO), the Gambian Association of Local Government Authorities (GALGA), and the National Youth Council (NYC).
The agency’s mandate is to implement development projects, efficiently and expeditiously, on behalf of the Government and Gambia’s Development Partners. The agency has also been implementing projects funded entirely by the Gambia Government National Budget or Public Enterprises and Public Institutions.
