NPP Birom JS Sowe is Niamina West New Member of Parliament

President Adama Barrow’s National Peoples’ Party (NPP) candidate Birom JS Sowe has this Saturday won the much awaited legislative by-election to fill the vacant position of National Assembly Member for Niamina West.

With 1718 ballot casts in his favor against 805 for his opponent Yerro Jallow of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), Birom Sowe has offered NPP its first ever victory in what many perceived as a test for the might and survival of Adama Barrow’s newly formed political party.

NPP heavily poured resources down the campaign trail, engaging government officials and cabinet ministers to sell the agenda of President Barrow. A lot of promises have been made to the rural folks in Niamina West, one of such promises being the construction of roads as part of the OIC projects.

Though GDC has also deployed a lot of resources in what many in the party saw as a personal political battle between Mama Kandeh and Adama Barrow, the latter has finally won the seat left vacant after the death of Demba Sowe last January.

Apparently, not even the unexpected support GDC got from UDP was enough to stop the effects of President Barrow’s money and promises.
