Network Against Gender-Based Violence (NGBV) donated medical items worth over half a million dalasis to 9 general hospitals across the country.
The items according to the organization are meant to support one-stop centers to effectively manage and respond to cases that are coming to the hospitals in terms of sexual violence and domestic violence during the lockdown.
The donated items include detergent, drugs, gloves, and hand sanitizers and will be distributed to medical centers across the country including the EFSTH, Kanifing General Hospital, and Brikama District Hospital among others.
Falu Sowe, National Coordinator of Network Against Gender-Based Violence (NGBV), said the donated items will be going to the one-stop centers to help them in managing the cases of gender-based violence especially domestic violence.
However, Sowe said his foundation realized an increase in the number of reported cases of sexual violence and domestic violence, especially against pregnant women thereby making them very concerned as an institution that is trying to address issues of GBV in The Gambia.
“With the help of our partners ActionAid International the Gambia and Amplify Change we decided to purchase these items to support the one-stop centers to effectively manage and respond to cases that are coming to the hospitals during this lockdown.”
