New Elected Parliamentarian: “I’ll be the Mouthpiece of Niamina West”

The newest elected National Assembly member, Birom Sowe has vowed to become the mouthpiece of Niamina West constituency following his election earlier this month. He said he’ll speak for the interest of all Gambians as well in the house.

“Even though I was elected by the people of Nyamina, I will make sure I represent the interest of all Gambians in this honorable house,” Birom told The Chronicle after he was sworn in. “I would be the mouthpiece of the people of Nyamina West and I will  try my best in representing their interest at all times.”

Birom’s election came through a by-election following the death of his predecessor Demba Sowe of Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC). He contested under National People’s Party’s ticket (NPP), which was newly established by President Adama Barrow.

Although Nyamina West has been a stronghold for GDC since their existence prior to 2016 general election, Birom said NPP was able to convince the people that it’s the right party that can represent them well at the Assembly when it comes to the interest of the whole constituency. He hailed supporters for electing him.

“They noticed that nothing was done in that area by the previous Member of Parliament so they decided to choose me to represent their interest at this house. They can only hang onto the ruling party to be well represented.”

Birom has become the first elected official of the NPP which was founded in January 2020.
