More Soldiers Arrested After the Missing of over D300, 000 Fuel Coupons
The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) has continued to arrest more soldiers over the weekend who are allegedly linked to the missing fuel coupons, quantifying to more D300, 000 last week.
The weekend arrest came following an initial arrest of more than five soldiers who were on guard when the incident occurred on Wednesday at the Defence Headquarters in Banjul.
“The Gambia Armed Forces wishes to confirm the arrest of Corporal Sarjo Conteh and Corporal Ismaila Saidyfaye of The Gambia Armed Forces in connection with the missing fuel coupons at the Defence Headquarters worth over D300, 000. The soldiers are presently in the custody of the military police helping them in their investigations,” said the spokesperson of GAF, Major Lamin Sanyang.
He declined to give an exact number of the arrested soldiers due to security reasons.
However, he said the soldiers are detained in ‘open custody’ at both Fajara and Yundum barracks with family access pending the conclusion of the investigations.
