The Gambia police are currently detaining a prominent human rights activist Madi Jobarteh following his ‘Black Lives Matter’ peaceful protest on Saturday.
He is said to be questioned on his purported comment during an interview with the media at the protest site in front of the American embassy in the country.
A credible source told The Chronicle the Madi is refusing to write a statement at the police station, which the police are insisting that he must either do so or be detained overnight.

The police spokesperson Superintendent Lamin Njie did not pick calls for the police version of the story.
The Chronicle is closely monitoring this development to report accordingly.
Madi had verse experience in civil society works having served The Association of Non-Governmental Organizations in The Gambia (TANGO) as program manager. He’s currently the country representative of the British Westminster Foundation.
