Jarra Road Accident Claims 3 lives, Scores Injured

At least three people are confirmed dead with several others sustaining injuries in a fatal road accident that occurred on Wednesday in Jarra, Lower River Region.

 The incident according to an eye witness, involved a Gele-gele passenger vehicle and a passenger bus belonging to Gambia Transport Services Corporation (GTSC). 

The driver of the Gele-gele vehicle is reported to have died on the spot, while the Corporation bus driver sustained severe body injuries. 

 “We understand that the Gele-gele vehicle was trying to overtake at least three vehicles including our bus, its driver loses control of the vehicle and subsequently ran onto another bus of ours that was coming from Banjul, says the managing director of The Gambia Transportation Service Corporation Seedy Kanyi. “It is a very unfortunate incident because lives have been lost and many others in a very difficult situation at this moment.””

Lamin Njie, Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident. He said he was expecting to get the full details of the incident and as soon as he got the details he will share with Chronicle.

In the Gambia, injuries and deaths resulting from road accidents are on the rise. Recently a renowned budding journalist and activist along with two other youth leaders lost their lives in a fatal road accident.
