I’ve Enough Youths and Women behind Me – Gambia’s Female Presidential Aspirant
The female presidential hopeful Marie Sock is confident that she has enough youths and women to take her to the State House in 2021 presidential elections.
She’s the second Gambian female to disclose her intention to run for presidency after Dr. Isatou Touray, the current Vice President who launched her candidature for the 2016 presidential elections. However, she failed to make history of being the first Gambian female to contest the presidency position as she decided to throw her weight behind the coalition’s candidate Adama Barrow who eventually won the elections.
Madam Sock, a real estate company owner has formally launched her status on Saturday ahead of the polls next year. As an independent candidate, she’s also interested to be selected by the existing political parties as their standard bearer.

“Am not just banking on political parties to endorse me. I think I have enough youths behind me and I have enough women behind me to make a big difference in this country.
“I feel that coming together with them (political parties) as a woman standing and seeing all the youths and women behind me, it will make sense to join my alliance,” she appeals to political parties.
She said the days for stereotyping women in the country is over, adding that women were only viewed as housewives only fit for cooking and washing. She argues that in today’s world, both men and women go out to fend for survival and other needs of the family.
“Gambia has to come out of this mediocrity and out of all this ‘this is what we know’, the moment we put ourselves in that box things will never change. We need to move away from that box of mediocrity and look for another box by looking onwards to our neighbouring countries such as Senegal,” Madam Sock says.
According to her, the journey she embarked upon is a journey for youths and women of the country that represents a better change for their aspirations.
She disclosed that her team is finalizing her manifesto that will be available to the public, indicating that they have designed ten cardinal pillars that they will use to fix the country back to normalcy.
“We are going to work on ten cardinal pillars on the way and know-how in moving The Gambia forward for the next ten years. These are the economy of the country, education, medical health, women and youth empowerment, price regulation, agricultural development, infrastructure, crime, job creation and increment of minimum wages in The Gambia.”
She says each pillar has been researched and worked upon and her ‘youths’ are doing the editing.
“We have a roadmap and this is the roadmap that will guide us to fix this country and turn The Gambia around as I am only here to serve as the captain of the ship to arrive safely at the port.”
She called on Gambians to put aside political party differences and rally behind her for the 2021 Presidential election.
The Gambia has fourteen registered political parties currently including the National People’s Party (NPP) recently established by President Barrow.
I think is high time we vote for women and see what their leadership will be for The Gambia and Gambians
We have so many close minded people in The Gambia, they will not give this lady chance. I have already seen comments on that stupid Facebook page they call “What’s on Gambia” about her finding a husband first!.
As long as we have people like that in The Gambia, the country will never move forward. So what! she is not married? What does that have to do with her leadership skills? Listen to what her manifesto says, read it, look at the work she is already doing for the people to help them and stop concentrating on her personal life.
Please give this lady a chance Gambia! Let’s move forward to make Gambia the best place to be for everything. Stop letting greedy politicians eat everything that belongs to every Gambia! They are killing us! And we can stop that happening my fellow Gambians.
I pray to Allah that they will be enough woke people in The Gambia in 2021 to take Gambia forward!

It is time for a woman in Gambia, as everywhere in the world, to have the chance to create a policy of social life. I come from Germany and here in our country Mrs Merkel has moved a lot in recent years and brought us citizens to prosperity. I also wish for the beautiful country of Gambia and its dear people, the country deserved it.
