Barrow Appoints Defence Minister
In a mini cabinet reshuffle, President Adama Barrow On Thursday relieved the Interior Minister Ebrima M. Mballow of his post. A statement from the State House said he has been redeployed to the Foreign Service, though it did not give any reason.
According to the statement, former Police Inspector General Yankuba Sonko will replace Mballow as the Interior Minister.
In another development, Sheikh Omar Faye, a former Ambassador to the U.S during the era of Yahya Jammeh, has been appointed as the Minister of Defence. Until his appointment, he was Consul General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service, Ebrima O. Camara has also been relieved of his appointment and redeployed to the Foreign Service, according to the statement. He has been replaced by Muhammed B.S. Jallow, a Permanent Secretary at the Office of the President.
No official reason has been given for the reshuffle.
