IEC Recruits Polling Officials 57 Days Before Presidential Vote

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is conducting recruitment for the positions of Assistant Returning Officer, Presiding officer, Assistant presiding officer, Polling assistant, and Polling officer, respectively, for the 4th December presidential election. 

Applicants must possess at least a senior secondary school certificate, Diploma, an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

The deadline for submission is 15th October 2021. The Independent Electoral Commission has also released the summary requirement for the nomination of presidential candidates ahead of the December polls.

A presidential candidate must have a representative symbol, color, and photographs. Under the Constitution and the Election Act, a person who is qualified to be registered as a voter may contest as an independent candidate in the election.

The Commission also noted that a political party/candidate “Shall abide by the code of conduct on the election and ethics which they (the Commission) may, from time to time, prepare,” adding that a candidate “Must also submit their manifesto to encourage the spirit of tolerance and multiculturalism.”

The nominations of Presidential candidates are slated for 30th October 2021 at the IEC premises, Kanifing, at 9 AM prompt.
