The Independent Commission (IEC) has confirmed that 962,157 people are registered to vote in this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
The Commission gave the following figures as the number of registered voters in the 7 administrative regions of The Gambia.
Banjul -21, 372,
Kanifing Municipality – 179,800,
West Coast Region – 359,451,
North Bank Region – 109,262,
Lower River Region – 54,456,
Central River Region – 119,606,
Upper River Region – 118, 210,
These numbers add up to 962,157 as of the total number of registered voters. Again, West Coast Region is the highest region with the registered voters of 359,451 this year.
The Commission said it had expunged the names from the list of persons engaged in double registration.
According to the Commission, there are no objections and appeals, and the deadline for filing objections and appeals has passed.
It’s exactly 75 days before the 4th December elections, with 18 registered political parties and 4 Independent presidential aspirants.
The Commission will begin the nomination of Presidential candidates in October, and campaigns will start from 6th November to 3rd December 2021.
