IEC Announces Registration of Gumbo Ali Touray’s Party

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced on Monday the registration of All Peoples Party (APP) with the interim leader as Alhagie Gumbo Ali Touray.

“The Independent Electoral Commission hereby wishes to notify the general public that having met the requirements for registration under section 105 of the Elections Act 2009 (as amended), a new party, All Peoples Party has this 6th day of January 2020  been duly registered as a bona fide political party.”

APP will use a book, a rice plant and a stethoscope as its symbol with party colour containing sea blue and white diagonally from the top left with blue down, according to IEC’s dispatch.

The interim leader once served as director of International Affairs at the University of The Gambia. While in office, he wrote a petition to the Office of The President in March 2011 accusing the then Vice Chancellor, Prof. Muhammadou Kah of squandering university’s resources and engaging in nepotism and cronyism by employing his relatives and friends.

He also accused Kah of dismantling the university’s councils and committees and giving favours to foreign staff, much to the anger of Gambian staff.

However, State House reacted and accused him giving false information. He was tried at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court presided by then magistrate, Alagbe.

In 2012, the court acquitted and discharged him after the state fails to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.
