Gambia – One Killed on Koriteh Day, Multiple Incidents of Stabbing

The Chronicle has reliably learned that one Serign, a young man in his twenties, died of stabbing on Thursday evening at Westfield Park in Serrekunda after a thug assaulted him.

Various accounts of the incident concur that Serign was assaulted after he left home for an errand. When Serign arrived at Westfield, a boy suddenly erupted from the crowd (Westfield was groovy because of the Koriteh) and asked Serign to hand over a bag he had with him. As Serign refused to comply, the boy allegedly pulled up a knife and stabbed Serign in the chest, causing intense bleeding. Serign was pronounced dead at the Accidents and Emergency Unit of the Kanifing General Hospital at around 10 pm.

The spokesperson of the Gambia police force has confirmed the arrest of the alleged murderer of Serign shortly after the incident. He has also confirmed that the investigation into the incident is still on course.

Meanwhile, the fatal stabbing of Serign was not the only incident of its king on the Koriteh day. Our reporter was at the Kanifing general hospital to escort a patient on the very night of Koriteh and has witnessed at least four cases of stabbed youths handled by the emergency medical personnel.

The doctors managed to save one boy from death after being stabbed twice in the back and a laceration on his left hand.
