The Ghana Reinsurance Company Monday commenced a four-day training for Gambian insurance professionals to build their capacity on engineering Insurance and Business Interruption.
At least 40 insurers representing various local companies are taking part in the training hosted by Insurance Association of The Gambia (IAG). Its Secretary General, Molifa Sanneh said the engagement is the first to allow Gambia insurance market to benefit from a technical training on the subject, engineering and business interruption underwriting. He said the training is part of Ghana Reinsurance Company’s efforts to give back to the Gambian market for the patronage the company has been receiving from The Gambia.
The Deputy Managing Director of the Ghana Reinsurance Company said the decision to conduct the training was inspired by the emerging trends in insurance and the on-going infrastructural projects across The Gambia and in other countries in the sub-region.
The Commissioner of Insurance at the Central Bank of The Gambia, Pa Alieu Sillah, said the training and technical insurance knowledge to be gained will produce the requisite skilled manpower to enable a more meaningful contribution to the development of companies in the country.
He urged the participants to make most of the training and share the knowledge gained with their colleagues back in their respective companies.
Mr Sillah assured them that the Central Bank, as the insurance regulatory authority, is committed to a better regulated industry with the capacity to enable the companies to honour their obligations, particularly those related to the payment of claims.
