The Gambia National Women’s U-20 Scorpions have failed to qualify to the 2020 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after drawing goalless with Burkina Faso in the second leg of the preliminary qualifier.
After losing the first leg in Ouagadougou 3-2, Foday Bah and his charges were hoping to overturn the results in Banjul on Saturday, but a goalless draw means Burkina Faso qualifies on (3-2) aggregate.
The game got incepted with much anticipation of greatness and brightness. The Young Scorpions were the better side in the early stages as they looked to unsettle Burkina Faso, but a solid defensive display and energetic midfield saw the first half end 0-0.

The Gambia raised their tempo after the recess as they went all out in search of the opener, but couldn’t break the resolute Burkina Faso defense.
It was all Gambia in the second half, but for all their dominance they struggled to fashion any significant goal scoring chances from open play.
Burkina Faso, however, did come close from a 20-yard free kick in the 73rd minute but Lala Traore saw her attempt headed off the goal line by Mariama Sanyang.
Burkina Faso will now face Nigeria in the second round of the qualifiers.
