The Gambia men volleyball team on Thursday emerged as 2-0 (21-18, 21-19) winners against one of the Asian giants Japan in the FIVB World Tour under way in Iran.
Sainey Jawo and Mbye Babou Jarra recovered from their first defeat of the competition to earn a quarter final ticket where they will face one of the tournament’s top ranked teams and host, Iran. This is Gambia’s second time participating in the world tour, but first time getting to the quarters.
Update: Gambia could not go beyond the last eight (8) after they lost to host Iran in the ongoing FIVB World Tour.
Gambia racked up two wins from there three outings to make it to the knock out stages. However, the team now have Olympic second qualifiers in February.
