Gambia Women’s National Football Team attacker, Isatou Jallow alias Basse has joined Nigeria’s top-flight side Rivers Angels F.C. for the rest of 2019 with an option to making it permanent.
Jallow, 21, is the second ever female Gambian player to sign up for the Nigerian League after national team captain, Penda Bah moved to newly-promoted Dream Stars Ladies FC of Lagos for an undisclosed fee.
“This transfer means a lot to me because it will help me as I continue to pursue a professional dream,” Isatou told The Chronicle.
Rivers Angels F.C is a former club of current top Super Falcons stars Asisat Oshoala and Francisca Ordega, both now plying their professional trade abroad.
“It’s like a dream come true for me to join a club where my star and my woman crush footballer (Asisat Oshoala) virtually started from.”
Isatou first signed with Israeli cup winner WFC Ramat Hasharon in October 2018 for one season with an option to extend, but the deal fell through due to unforeseen circumstances. However, the attacker now sets her sight for a breakthrough in the competitive Nigerian League.
“I am already looking forward to the new challenge ahead in Nigeria. I consider this journey as the start of a new beginning to successfully achieving my aspired career goals.”
Isatou played a crucial role in Gambia’s maiden participation in the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Burkina Faso and Nigeria.
The pacy and skillful forward is expected to arrive in Lagos on Thursday afternoon and later proceed to Port Harcourt to join her new teammates.
Rivers Angels F.C., based in Rivers State in Port Harcourt is one of the most successful Nigerian female clubs, winning four federation cup titles in 2013.
