Renowned politician and former Speaker of the Parliament, Fatoumata Jahumpa said she’d hand herself over the police following a request by the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission for her arrest.
Jahumpa’s longtime friend and former political associate, Yankuba Touray was arrested by the police Saturday morning and has been held at Kairaba Police Station for interrogation.
It would be recalled that on Thursday, former army corporal, Alagie Kanyi told the TRRC during his testimony that Touray and Jahumpa rang him and told him not to mind the TRRC. The commission ordered the police to arrest the two for alleged interference in its work.
Contacted by The Chronicle via telephone, Jahumpa who was out of the country, denied any wrongdoing and said she’d be returning home to surrender herself to the police.
Meanwhile the Police PRO, ASP Lamin Njie told The Chronicle that Yankuba Touray was undergoing investigation and that he could not confirm how long he’d be in detention.
