Gambia's Youth and Sports Minister Sidibeh

Gambia’s Minister of Youth and Sports Hadrammeh Sidibeh, has given an overview situational audit of his Ministry during an exclusive interview with The Chronicle.

He discussed about the challenges of the ministry, achievements and strategic plans for 2020. Recently, a stream of financial support was approved on GSM levies to support the ministry with it financial hiccups. However, there is public cry on how the funds will be managed, distributed and accounted.

So far, there is no available funding scheme or good governance framework, neither guidelines for funding in Gambian Sports.  This makes it more difficult to determine who, what and how funds should be disbursed to support National Sport Organizations.

In this interview, Sidibeh also talked about how lack of adequate sporting infrastructure is affecting the development of sports in The Gambia.

The Minister alleged that there’s systematic corruption in Gambia sport, this he said, will be solved with holistic reforms. Many believe the problem of Gambia sport is not only the insufficient funding, but insufficient competent staff at the helm and the misappropriate use of powers for personal gains.
