C.A Lauds TRRC, Asks Barrow to Fully Implement Recommendations to Come
The Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) on Friday ended its public hearings. In a press release issued Saturday, the Citizens’ Alliance has thanked and commended the TRRC for fulfilling its statutory mandate to probe into the human rights violations committed by former President Yaya Jammeh.
“Citizens’ Alliance takes this opportunity to thank the Chairman, Dr. Lamin J. Cisse, and all the Commissioners; the Lead Counsel, Mr. Essa Faal and all Counsels; the Executive Secretary, Dr. Baba Galleh Jallow, and the entire Secretariat for a great job. In particular, we thank all the witnesses that gave testimonies and the victims for their patience and trust in the process,” CA’s press release reads.
Three hundred and seventy witnesses appeared before the truth-seeking commission to give public testimonies of harrowing experiences. According to the TRRC Lead Counsel Essa Faal, former President Yahya Jammeh is directly responsible for killing over 250 people during his reign.
As a result, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay’s party believes that such a killing spree in a small country like The Gambia cannot be ignored when the moment of implementing the TRRC recommendations arrives. Therefore, Dr. Ceesay and his party want President Adama Barrow to act up to the expectations of all Gambians and implement the coming TRRC recommendations to their fullest.
“As we look forward to the final report, CA strongly urges President Adama Barrow and his government to ensure that the TRRC recommendations are fully implemented without prejudice. Gambians are all proud of this historic national achievement and will stand to see this process go through to its fullest,” CA’s press release read.
