Gambia’s Nobles To Share Stage With Wizkid and Burna Boy In Nigeria
The award-winning music group Nobles are set to grace the widely followed “My Music Festival” in Abuja, becoming the first Gambian artists to perform on that platform.
Nobles’ performance on this platform will be a clear manifestation of how Gambian music is gaining international recognition.
Nobles shared with The Chronicle how they made it to “My Music Festival.”
“Hard work is how we made it to this festival. In addition, Nobles is signed under a Nigerian label based in The Gambia called Money Empire. After our first single hit over a million views on YouTube and with regular play on major television channels like MTV and Trace, we are now getting recognised in the Nigerian music industry.”
The group went on to say that this achievement gives them hope and will make them push harder as they are ready to explore more. They added that this is just the beginning of success for Gambian music at large.
Engaging one of Gambian music stakeholders, Abdoulie Yuvaa, CEO and founder of The Plug (a digital marketing agency), he told The Chronicle that Nobles performing at “My Music Festival” doesn’t mean Gambian music is fully recognised internationally, but it’s gradually getting there.
Abdoulie advised artists to rebrand themselves and focus on selling outside The Gambia.
“Now, our artists have to rebrand themselves and focus more on selling themselves outside and do more collaborations with artists outside The Gambia while not forgetting their existing followers here.”
“My Music Festival” is one of the biggest annual entertainment platforms in Abuja which features some of the biggest artists in Nigeria. This year’s event is scheduled to take place from the 14th – 15th December 2019 in Abuja. The two-day festival will feature famous Nigerian artists such as Burna Boy and Wizkid whom Nobles are expected to share the same stage with.
