The Alkalo of Barra, in the north bank region, Alagie Baboucarr Faye has been called by the police for questioning over the migrant boat tragedy that claimed the lives of 52 Gambians including women in a vessel accident around the coast of Mauritania last week.
Faye, is being widely accused of collecting nearly 4 million dalasis from the migrants to use his boat with the hope of entering Europe.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) had been providing humanitarian assistance to the survivors in Nouadhibou.
Meanwhile, on Friday, a second fishing boat carrying between 150 and 180 migrants was intercepted by the Mauritanian coast guard. This group was also returned by authorities.
