The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has picked Gambian referee Bakary Papa Gassama to take charge of Cameroon’s crunch round 6 game against Comoros in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers in Yaounde on March 23rd.
The 2016 African Referee of the Year will lead a team of match officials when Cameroon square-off against Comoros at the Amadou Ahidjo Stadium in a group B decider.
The game is a must win for both sides as the winner gets a ticket for the 32nd Edition of the AFCON tournament to take place in Egypt this summer. Papa Gassama took charge of Cameroon’s 1-1 draw game against Nigeria on the 4th September 2017.
The experienced referee comes with a huge profile Months after participating in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Papa will be assisted by two assistant referees and a reserved referee from The Gambia.
